Help Me Grow Ventura County Developmental Screening Tool Kit & Parent Handout

Create a a tr-fold (8.5x11 when folded) document for distribution to health care professionals, teachers and day care providers to encourage them to have young children under their care participate in regular developmental screenings.  Document includes technical data to remind viewers why screenings are important and includes information and links to tools to help make the screening process easier. The document also must be visually engaging enough to keep the attention of the very busy folks who work with small children all day. 

Create a supporting document that can be given to parents to help explain the developmental screening process.  It's two-sided - Spanish on one side and English on the other.  Initial print run done professionally but document designed so that, in the future it can be printed in-house, as needed. 

These documents were created for Help Me Grow Ventura County who works with various other non-profits and governement agencies. This meant that multiple groups of people had to review these documents and make edits at various stages in the design process. .

For this round of designs the client wanted graphics with "University" and "Athletics" themes.  I chose a vintage look for the Athletics designs and a traditional college logo look for the University designs.

Design graphics for print on t-shirts and other merchandise for sale in the DreamWorks Animation Employee Store related to a new DreamWorks Animation show based on the popular children's book series, Dinotrux, by Chris Gall about dinosaurs that evolve as trucks.

The show is designed for kids but my client's demographic is all the grown ups who work at DreamWorks Animation. So my goal was to create graphics that would, hopefully, appeal to both kids and adults.

To create these designs I built upon existing (very cool!) artwork provided by DreamWorks Animation.

Design a map indicating where locals can find access to wellness opportunities, free health screenings and healthy food. Created in Spanish and English. Project for a non-profit organization working in the area of early childhood development. This map was one of a handful of documents I created for this client's Rx for Health program.

For this round my client wanted something fun and possibly a little irreverent that would appeal specifically to the folks who work on the Kung Fu Panda movies. His concept was to create logos for fictitious businesses named for some of the movie's main characters.

Design a t-shirt graphic for a bachelorette party.  The bride-to-be wanted to give all her guests a t-shirt to commemorate their girl's weekend in Cannon Beach, Oregon. She wanted the graphic to have a vintage-feel, to include a sunset, pine trees, the words "Love Ya Bitch" (from the show Broad City).

Client chose the distressed Oregon-shaped/pink/orange/70s sunset design and had it printed on dark blue green tanks. I made the "green" trees in the design cut out so - when printed - they would appear to match the t-shirt color.

Develop a visual campaign to encourage students to vote against hiring an armed college campus security guard. I was part of a three-person team. Together we developed a tagline and a visual concept. Separately we created different components of the campaign. All work shown here is mine. I designed a poster, made a video and created a process book. I also collaborated on the design of the website.

This is an interactive "field guide" to some of my favorite old neon signs around Ventura, California.

The guide is designed for use on an iPad. It includes an interactive map to help users locate each sign, multiple photos of each sign (day and night - if neon still functional), a brief history of neon and info about The Boneyard, a neon sign museum in Las Vegas...also a few extras. In addition to images it includes video and optional audio and utilizes swiping, scrolling, tapping, scrubbing and all manner of interactivity. 

With the exception of the vintage image on the cover - I took all photos and created all icons and graphics used in this publication.

Poster designed for Santa Barbara City College Foundation's "Show Us Your Love" campaign to promote student success. My poster won third place and 500 smackers!

Develop new branding concept for vegan shoe company, Beyond Skin. Their existing branding didn't highlight the fact that, unlike many other vegan shoe brands, Beyond Skin's shoes are also stylish and very feminine.

I developed the concept, tagline, images, poster, web banner, and brochure.

This is my first (and so far only) attempt at stop-motion animation. The video is just over one minute long and is made up of roughly 1000 individual images. It's very low-tech. The video includes some of my favorite items - beach glass, old photos and matchbooks and vintage Bakelite and other found objects - which all play around on screen and eventually come together to form my logo.

Note - the music quality is not as high as it could be so may sound a bit tinny. For best results wear headphones. It's a great tune by - the man - Dan Deacon.
